Hello my name is John Clayton and I was born in Chicago but now live in a small village near Bristol. I've lived in the U.K. since 1970 and have dual nationality (UK/USA). Further information about this can be found in the Interests section. I was an Aeronautical & Astronautical Engineer working on missile research (for my sins) after taking a BSc from the University of Illinois. I decided my talents should not be used for weapons manufacture and joined the Peace Corps in India. During this time, I realised that life in the USA was not for me. Upon my return from India, I packed a rucksack and set off for Europe and eventually became a teacher of mathematics in England. This became a vocation and my career developed through to my final post as a Lecturer in Mathematics Education including an MSc and MPhil involving a great deal of research into estimation in Schools until I retired in 1994.
I am thoroughly enjoying my retirement and engaging in my favourite activity of skiing but recently have taken up scuba diving. That probably tells you enough so you can see why the aspects of the Website are skiing, diving and, most important of all, estimation.
